Eight pawns a side. Reach the far rank to win — or get blockaded into a draw. Pawns never retreat, so every game ends.
Each side starts with eight pawns on its home rank. Nothing else is on the board.
Pawns move exactly as in chess: one square forward, two from home, diagonal captures, and en passant.
Promoting a pawn (reaching the far rank), or capturing every one of your opponent's pawns.
If the player to move still has pawns but no legal move, the position is locked and the game is a draw. Pawns never retreat, so games still always end.
